2006-2007 MatHawk's of Week

WEEK 9 - Frebruary 23-24

Junior Steven Ours is the wrestler of the week after winning his first Virginia AAA State Championship. Ours became the first underclassman in school history to win a state championship by defeating Great Bridges Jared King by a score of 9-2 in the championship finals.

WEEK 8 - February 10, 2007

Junior Daniel Mills is the wrestler of the week after his performance at the 2007 Patriot District Championships. Mills went 3-0 on his way to the 189 district championship. Mills defeated Jesse Kruse (#3 ranked wrestler in the Northern Regions) by a score 6-2, then defeated Daniel Dressner from Lake Braddock in the championship final by a score of 4-2 in overtime. Dressner was the #1 ranked wrestler in the region and had defeated Mills two times during the regular season.

WEEK 7 - January 24-27, 2007

Junior Steven Ours has been named wrestler of the week after finishing 2nd at the USMC Ultimate Challenge. Ours won his pool by going 4-0 to reach the finals. Ours also won two matches in a double dual versus West Potomac, and Edison. Ours finished the week 6-1 with 3 falls, one technicall fall, one major decision, and a decision. Ours is currently ranked second in VA AAA States.

WEEK 6 - January 15-20, 2007

Sophomore Ray Borja has been named wrestler of the week for his performance in duals against Lake Braddock, Annandale, West Springfield, Lee, and McLean.  Borja went 5-0 with 4 pins, and a major decision, including victories over the #4, and #5 ranked wrestlers in the Northern Region.  Borja is currently ranked 2nd in the region, and 7th in AAA states.

WEEK 5 - January 12-13, 2007

Senior Zach Grimsley is the wrestler of the week for his performance at the 2007 Eastern States Classic. Grimsley went 6-3 in the tournament, including 5 consecutive wins to reach the medal round. Grimsley finished in 8th place overall.

WEEK 4 - January 5-6, 2007

Sophomore Ray Borja is the wrestler of the week for his performance at the Battlefield Duals.  Borja was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler for the MatHawks after going 8-0 over the two day tournament.  Borja had four pins, one technical fall, and three decisions.

WEEK 3 - December 20-31, 2006

Junior Steven Ours is the wrestler of the week after winning the individual title at the Zac Jarzynka Memorial Ironman Tournament at 152 lbs. Ours also won two matches by fall against opponents from South County and TC Williams to go 6-0 for the week.  Ours is now 15-2 on the year, and is currently ranked 1st in the Northern Region, and ranked 2nd in AAA States.

WEEK 2 - December 15-16, 2006

Sophomore Ronnie Ours (130 lbs) is the wrestler of the week for his dominant wrestling at the Beef O'Brady Invitational.  Ronnie went 6-0 with 4 pins, one major decision and a thrilling come from behind victory by decision in the finals.

WEEK 1 - December 3-9, 2006

Sophomore Ronnie Ours (130 lb), and Senior Zach Grimsley (160 lb) have been named MatHawks of the the week for the week of December 3-9, 2006 for there performance at the Hanover Hawk Duals.

Ours went 4-1 over the weekend with three wins by pin and one by decision.

Grimsley also went 4-1, all four wins were by pin fall.
